Introduction

YouTube is an amazing resource for learning about, getting news on, and staying up-to-date with the developments of AI. Sometimes it feels like a gift to the world that individuals with so much knowledge give their time to create videos that inform us all. Here are, in my opinion, the 8 best AI YouTube channels to subscribe to if you're interested in AI.

I'm going to split things into two groups because there are two distinct types of YouTube channels in this list:

  • The first group is a list of four channels that are highly informative around the latest developments, news and dissecting study papers on the subject of AI. I find all four of these highly entertaining, often in very different ways.
  • The second group is for those that want to get deep in the weeds with 4 channels that are more about the practical application of AI.

So, enough chit-chat, let's get into it.

News, Latest Developments and Study Papers

AI Explained

AI Explained is a great channel for anyone interested in AI, the videos are well-produced and the information is always on point. Papers are studied so we, the viewers, don't have to. This isn't a channel that will pump out 5 videos a week, in fact the tag line on the channel is "Videos if Merited", so you know the quality will take precedence over quantity. Occasionally they even give predictions on when they think the next big model will be released.

Matt Wolfe

Such a good channel with a great website too. FutureTools.io catalogues AI tools and resources so you can search the categories and try them out for yourself. Matt's channel is an excellent resource for keeping up with all the developments in AI, he usually creates a round-up of the last week's news in AI on a Thursday for release on Friday. Matt's presentation style, especially in the round-up videos, is no-nonsense, no-waffle and to the point. I love it.

Two Minute Papers

With a strangely addictive and enthusiastic voice, Dr. Károly Zsolnai-Fehér is both incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. His channel Two Minute Papers is a great resource for keeping up with the latest AI research and, I'm glad to say, his videos are a good bit longer than 2 minutes. I could only find one recent video that strayed over 10 minutes, I'm sure there was good reason for it. Information packed and well presented, this channel is a must for anyone interested in AI.

Wes Roth

You may see a theme running through this article, I tend to like creators who know their stuff but don't take things too seriously and very occasionally, are able to be a little self-deprecating. Wes Roth is a great example of this. Wes has a lovely, languid delivery and every so often there is a female voice that pops up to correct him or act as a foil to his musings. His videos are often on the longer side and often involve Wes highlighting snippets from study papers, but they are always packed with information and are entertaining. Wes' take on the World Sim from Nous Research could be described as a work of art in and of itself.

Practical Application

codewithbrandon

Brandon Hancock runs codewithbrandon, and he adds a little polish to his videos which is a nice touch, but it's the content that really shines. I particularly like that he's chosen to put a lot of focus on CrewAI, a tool that allows you to deploy AI agents to perform roles, whether that be in researching a topic, acting as a travel advisor or playing a coding role in a larger team.

Sam Witteveen

For the nerds among us who like to get into the weeds of AI, Sam Witteveen is a great channel to subscribe to. Sam is a great teacher and conveniently, he seems to run whatever he can in Google Colab that he shares with his viewers, which means we can just create a copy and start customising things for our own needs. Sam doesn't hang around either, you would think some of these topics would result in long videos but they're often less than 15 minutes.

All About AI

All about AI's content is actually a mix of how to do certain things like set up AI agents, his thoughts and wishes for the future of AI as well as some great content on the latest developments in AI, it's a beautiful balance I think. I find his videos very informative and love his no-nonsense delivery.

Tyler AI

Tyler doesn't waste much time, which I love. Often there's a quick introduction then he gets straight into the content. He recently (March '24) made a video every day for a month, what a mission that must have been, good on him. Agentic AI is rightly on the forefront of people's minds right now and Tyler has some great content on the subject. So go check out Tyler AI.

Notable mention

Lex Fridman

I wish I had more time to consume some longer-form content that Lex Fridman puts out. And his content isn't always based on AI topics, but Lex is a great interviewer. Of the videos I have watched, I can recommend both interviews with Open AI CEO Sam Altman, hearing Andrej Karpathy talk is always interesting, I'll be catching up with the Yann LeCun interview soon and maybe we should all heed the words of Eliezer Yudkowsky, who warns us of the Dangers of AI and the End of Human Civilization
